Rita Dohn, OSB

Rita was raised in South Dakota where she was schooled and worked as a protective service social worker before joining Mother of God Monastery in Watertown. After some years at Mother God Monastery, she heard a different drummer and journeyed toward Benedictine life as lived by the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (BSPA’s). She has been planted at Clyde, MO. since 1977, yet still appreciates and connect to the foundation in Watertown.
Rita has served her Congregation in three different houses and a number of ministries within the community. She headed the monastery kitchen for a few years and found out she is a very good cook and loves to do it. She also has served as sub prioress in St. Louis and prioress for two terms at Clyde in the 90’s.
She has a long history in management of the altar bread business for the BSPA’s, so long that she has recently been asked to reassume that task, along with initial formation. Rita had a year sabbatical at Gonzaga and is presently in the spiritual direction program sponsored by the Atchison community.
Favorite reading: definitely focused on a mile long list generated by the spiritual direction program. Favorite books: The Soloist, The Photographers Daughter, The Shack, are some of the more recent good books she has read. All of them spoke to her of the spiritual journey….”thus my own stuff.” “I always find that motivational, challenging, broadening.”
However, she enjoys recreational reading, fishing, watching a good movie, and just being with her sisters.
Rita is in her fourth year as Initial Formation Director working with novices and a postulant.
Rita was elected in April 2009 to serve on the Core Team. She is Vice-Chair.
