Goals of the Institute
NOVICES
-
To experience the unity and diversity of Benedictine communities while living in the midst of the hosting community.

To explore some essential elements of the Benedictine monastic life as found in the Rule of Benedict.

To listen with the ear of the heart to the Benedictine call to be transformed in Christ.
-
To experience peer support and feedback regarding their experience of monastic formation.
DIRECTORS
- To receive peer support as well as input regarding specific matters, concerns or questions.
- To share with other directors wisdom, programs and resources.
- To support the novice in her experience of the NADI program.
PARTICIPANTS
- Benedictine novices who are preparing for first monastic profession and their directors.
- Formation directors who at this time have no novices but who are seeking support and training.

SPECIAL REQUEST RELATED TO “FUTURE” THEME
The Monastic Institute at St. John’s University in 2006 focused on (in Katherine Howard’s words) “a lively conversation between monastics rooted in the Benedictine tradition and Christians from ‘new monastic’ and other intentional communities.” One Heart, One Soul: Many Communities, edited by Mary Forman records the presentations and much of the dialogue that happened. There is much here for thought regarding “MOVING INTO THE FUTURE.” We want to devote two half days to conversations on BENEDICTINE WOMEN IN THE FUTURE. To prepare for that we are asking each community (Director and/or Novice/s) coming to NADI to read a chapter from One Heart, One Soul and prepare a short presentation for the group. A total group conversation will conclude the process. More information will be sent with the follow-up mailing.
