Bobbi Bussan, OSB
Better known as Sr. Bobbi, she serves as Vocation Director for St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island, IL. She entered in 1978 after working 3 years in the residential high school in Nauvoo operated by the Sisters. Prior to working for the Sisters she had never met a Benedictine. She was taught by Sinsinnawa Dominicans who instilled an interest in her for religious life. However, it was the Benedictines who touched her life and love by their rythm of life, work and prayer and hospitality.
Bobbi has a BS in Parks and Recreation Adminstration from Western Illinois University (1975) and a Master’s in Religious Education from St. Meinrad School of Theology (1984). Bobbi also serves as computer tech for her community. Previously Bobbi was food service manager for the Monastery for 9 years; she also taught Religion and served in different adminstrative postions in 4 high schools over a period of 18 years.
In her free time, Bobbi serves as Chair of the Board for a house for homeless women and children. She also enjoys reading, movies, doing jigsaw puzzles, nature, music , the Chicago Bears (or anything football) and computers. Her favorite book is Johnny Get Your Gun, however, Seven Story Mountain is a close second. She loves history, biographies and mystery/intrigue.
“I never desired to be vocation director but have come to enjoy my ministry of promoting not only my community but our Benedictine charism. We have had 4 women enter who add new life and twists to the community. It is wonderful to see God’s Grace at work in the women I meet.”
Sr. Bobbi serves the Core Team as Treasurer. In this role she also coordinates the VISION AD and the website.
